Hey Summoners,
We have some more information to share on the recent server outages that we have encountered. We have discovered the cause of these issues, and are actively working with our business partners to ensure they rectify the problem as soon as possible and to our satisfaction.
From the information we have gathered, we do expect there to be intermittent service outages throughout the day until we see the problems fully resolved.
It was important to us that we be transparent with you all on this issue once the severity of this situation became known. We will continue to update you all as more information becomes available.
We also know that many of you have raised valid concerns surrounding how this will impact in-game content and items. Our team is currently discussing this as well, and will be able to focus more attention on the matter once we have achieved server stability. Our goal is to ensure that we are accountable to our player base. We greatly appreciate your patience as we first work to resolve the issues, and then turn our focus to this equally as important aspect of the conversation.

As you saw in our announcement yesterday, our team has been working to stabilize the server issues that have been impacting The Contest. We also mentioned that we had started the conversation surrounding how this has impacted the various in-game events that we run at any given time, along with our Anniversary events. We’ve made some progress on this discussion and wanted to provide all of you with some of an update. Please note: this is not the extent of our conversations or where we are stopping, but we have some things completely locked in and we wanted to let you all know where we are at with our progress.
Alliance Quests
To address the impact that these recent issues have had on AQ, we will be sticking with 30 minute timers for the next AQ. We will also be removing the map entry costs. Additionally, our team is taking a look at map specific tiers but have no further details on this just yet.
Arenas
We know that many players were working to grind through the Taskmaster and Star-Lord arenas, and that the extent of these outages may have impacted certain time zones surrounding these arenas. As a result, we will be running a Featured Hero Taskmaster and Basic Hero Star-Lord arena in January. Taskmaster will be the Featured Hero in the arena that runs on January 25th and 29th and the Star-Lord arena will run as the Basic Hero on Jan 18th and 22nd in place of the previously scheduled repeat champion. This longer lead time will ensure that Summoners can plan accordingly, and that we are not running a large number of events at the same time. There is already a lot going on in The Contest for the anniversary celebrations!
Log-in Calendars
We will be adding an extra day of leeway to both the 3 Year Anniversary log-in calendar, as well as the December log-in calendar. This will help Summoners that may not have been able to log in to The Contest due to yesterday’s downtime, and ensure that you do not miss out on calendar rewards as a result.
Additional areas of impact we are still discussing
In addition to the above, we are still discussing how we will address a few remaining areas within The Contest. This includes but may not be limited to:
So to summarize, we’ve got very specific plans surrounding AQ, Arenas and Log-in Calendars. We’re still having further conversations surrounding M.O.D.O.K. Lab Quests, Legends runs and an overall in-game package - once details surrounding these three points have been finalized, we will provide you all with another update.
We thank you all for your patience as we continue to discuss these matters and monitor the stability of The Contest.
Stay tuned for tomorrow, when we will be announcing some of our remaining Holiday 2017 celebration plans!
We have another update for you all regarding our compensation discussions surrounding this week’s Server Outages. It’s important to remember that the outages had an impact on many different aspects of the game, and the actions we are discussing here are not comprehensive, and there are still aspects we have not reached a conclusion on. Stay tuned for more information next week! For now, we wanted to provide you with another update before heading into the weekend.
Alliance Quests:
In addition to reducing the Energy Refresh timers to 30 Minutes and eliminating Map Costs for the upcoming series of Alliance Quests we previously announced, all Alliance Members that joined an Alliance Quest during the affected time (December 12th, 5:00PM PST to December 13th, 3:00PM PST) - or up to 24 hours before it - will receive a compensation package determined by the Map the Alliance was running at the time (max map difficulty will be taken if there is more than one):
Map 1:
1x Level 2 Alliance Revives
3x Level 2 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 1 Alliance Quest Crystals
Map 2:
1x Level 2 Alliance Revives
3x Level 2 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 2 Alliance Quest Crystals
Map 3:
1x Level 2 Alliance Revives
3x Level 3 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 3 Alliance Quest Crystals
Map 4:
3x Level 2 Alliance Revives
3x Level 3 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 4 Alliance Quest Crystals
Map 5:
3x Level 2 Alliance Revives
3x Level 4 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 5 Alliance Quest Crystals
Map 6:
3x Level 2 Alliance Revives
5x Level 4 Alliance Health Potions
3x Map 6 Alliance Quest Crystals
To receive the rewards listed above, you must have joined a Battlegroup in the affected time period or up to 24 hours before it.
M.O.D.O.K.’s Lab
The server outage affected 4 rounds of M.O.D.O.K.’s Lab. To compensate for the affected quests, we will be delivering each Summoner the rewards for each of the Quests affected during this time, up to the highest difficulty they have completed since the event was introduced on December 6th.
This means that if you have completed a Master Difficulty M.O.D.O.K.’s Lab since between December 6th and the end of the affected period (December 13th, 3:00PM PST), you will receive 4x the rewards for Master Difficulty, 4x the Rewards for Heroic Difficulty, 4x the Rewards for Normal Difficulty, and 4x the Rewards for Easy difficulty. These rewards will not include the Randomizers.
To receive these rewards you must have logged in at some point within 24 hours before the affected period (or during).
To close off, we just want to remind Summoners that we are still discussing other areas impacted by these outages that we need to address, Legends runs being one of those. We will share another update once we have made more progress on that front. For all of the items we’ve detailed above, note that we will not be able to issue the payouts until end of week next week. Our data team needs time to carefully collect information on impacted Summoners, and translate in-game messages.
Thank you for your patience in this matter, and we hope you all have a great weekend!
