iOS gift redemption with Gmail account

How is it possible to redeem an NYCC comic Con iOS gift with a Gmail account? I usually play on Android but when I tried to redeem 2500 units with a friend's iPhone the units seemed to have disappeared.

    He logged into his account on a friends phone, that's not account sharing.
