Is this fair and reasonable?

OK now I know Groot is not the best character in this game, but I found this sheer garbage.

In VS against Jean grey or Phoenix whatever! I had hit her down to about 10% health when the inevitable mega move came!

Now my Groot was at about 90% health and had taken no hits, had no effects and this **** KO,'d me with her bloody mega move.

Surely that can't be right, a mega move with equal characters should not be able to basicalky kill an entire health bar? They were both about 900 PI, and if I did the same it would take about 25% of the stupid cows health bar.

I find this rather crappy as it means the AI can block, take damage in the full knowledge all they have to do is enable red special and you are dead, so you might aswell just quit.

As if Vs is not hard enough for God's sake.

phoenix probably had a ton of fury stacks.

I can't remember, but it's a bit OTT by to get wiped out with one move when you have a nearly full health bar, by a similar opponent.

It happens with Hulk as well, if he's below a certain Health. L3 KO. Some Champs have boosted Abilities that make them stronger at certain times.

That's part of the strategy with the game. The better players know which champs you don't want to get to l3. You must learn to bait l1s or l2s based on the champs fighting. Sometimes an l3 is much better than taking an l2 like starlord or Spiderman. Phoenix has one of the best l3s in the game and you should always be baiting her l1 or l2. Baiting specials is a critical part of end game play.

It can happen if you trigger opponent's L3 when they are stacked with attack buffs. So, uh, don't do that =P Groot is not particularly resistant to energy damage.

i noticed a similar problem with groot. basically his description tells you. he is a PACIFIST.
in order for him to do damage, you gotta build up PACIFISM charges, and then "throw-them off" and convert them to "pissed-off" buffs.

build up charges by baiting specials, or just let them hit you (getting critted will give you a charge)

once you stack up some furies, you will see that you start doing damage.

Apologies if you already knew this. I am simply commenting because based on your "90% health and had taken no hits" i'm guessing you didn't have many furies active.

PS. my favorite matchup is to go against warmachine or the like, and just take his L1 to the face. i often get several crits off of his L1 that build charges, but then don't do any damage cause i'm bleed immune.

Phoenix is one of the only champs who can do that. It's not a matter of Groot being bad, but high Fury SP3s is where Phoenix excels.

Sadly I don't play the game enough to understand how to bait AI, I have seen people coming, but it looks ridiculously hard, and really is a different levels of gameplay to what 90% of people can understand and work out, like knowing who to level etc, when you don't pay and have small rosters, you don't have that luxury.

Like many of these games now, the Devs have to cater for alien freaks and noobs! Very hard job.

Not to be rude...but you can watch a 5 minute video on baiting specials on YouTube...I am by no means an elite player in this game and I am able to do it. If you are writing it off as you have to be some sort of robot to pull it off while putting in minimal effort on trying to learn it....this game will only make you angry...

It isn't hard or complicated, but like all physical skills it requires practice. It takes only a couple minutes to explain how to juggle. It generally takes longer than that for the physical skill to become second nature.

The basic concept to baiting is that generally speaking, the AI has to think using the special actually makes sense. It won't do that, or will do it less often, if you are always out of range or always blocking. The AI will be encouraged to use specials if you are in range, not blocking, or both. So the physical skill that requires practice is being able to "linger" for a brief moment in a vulnerable position and then quickly block or dash back to avoid actually getting hit. The mental skill is learning how each champion's specials work, so you know what's necessary to put yourself into jeopardy the best and what you need to do to actually avoid the special if you manage to bait it out.

Every champ is different, but one tactic I find tends to work generally is to dash forward and hit the champ once. Then pause for a very short moment and then dash back. That "teases" the AI into thinking that it has a chance to tag you. If you do that repeatedly it will eventually take the bait and use a special.

This isn't foolproof, and if you don't do it right you could push the champ to special three. But it was one of my starting points for learning the technique.

What you should not believe is that there exist superhuman freaks that don't do this by reflex: that can actually watch the champions move in slow motion like the Flash and reach instantly to the enemy when they begin to use a special. With practice it will happen that way: your eyes will see what you are waiting to see and your fingers will take the right action, but it will happen automatically after practicing makes it automatic, just like jugglers do not consciously move their hands to catch and throw balls with each cycle.

L3 and L2 are often WIN CONDITIONS!

Voodoo has his poison and Burns
    Wolverine has bleeds

But a LOT of champions have L2-L3 that are OP

I don't the "official" bait kunfu, but my trick was go out the range and hit the air a 3-hit combo. Doing two times maybe three and the AI would fire the special. But it isn't working more.
