Premium Hero Crystal New Champ Bug?

This one is gonna be hard to explain. I was wondering, has anyone else recently opened a Premium Hero Crystal in which a "New Champ" showed up in the rewards, but you already had that champ in that star rarity AND Awakened AND multiple sig levels?
So what happened was I opened 10 Premium Hero Crystals and my rewards included 9 2-star champs, and 1 3-star "new" champ. The 3-star was Modok. However, I already had Modok as a 3-star. My Modok was also already Awakened. So it looks like the Modok, which was suppose to be dupe levels, over-wrote my Modok and replaced it with a default 3-star Modok. Modok was also a login monthly crystal, so it's impossible for my account to have just gotten him. I didn't sell him.
I wanted to see if anyone has experience this?
