Gifting event confusion

So, I'm a little bit confused on how rank rewards are gonna work in the gifting event. I've been low on units since I recently bought mastery Cores before the event started, so I'm only at 2200 points. I need 4000+ to get our current milestone, and it says you must reach that milestone to qualify for rank rewards. I don't really see that making sense because some people are gonna spend to gift, while others who grind arena will have units. I've opened up well over 100k BC without any units and I honestly can't see myself hitting 4000 points before it ends. Anyone know whether I'll still receive rank rewards?
