Kicked Out of Variant Quest

Didn't have a problem with Emergency Maintenance, but when the game came back up, I had been kicked out of my current variant quest. I had spent A LOT of units and all my health pots and had the boss around 2K (literally a few hits) from being KO'd. When the game came back up it said my quest had "expired."
Anyone else have issues with this? No one seems to be talking about it. In another thread everyone is complaining about AQ/AW because they couldn't log in for the end, but this is a completely separate issue and I figured deserved its own thread.
