    Can avoid damage with Dexterity.

    One could argue that parry just makes the game A LOT easier but it's not essential. Dexterity is essential. Else you will just die to block damage.

    Parry is essential for starting combos and dealing damage
    Dexterity is essential for taking no damage and getting an opening for a combo
    Dexterity is zero damage but still gives you a chance to fight back

    Get both.
