Thing - tanking s3 not triggering protective shielding

As stated s3 does not trigger protective shielding, although if I charge heavy before opponent uses s3 it works as I perceive it’s intended to. I know it says while charging heavy but it also says in abilities that if struck by special attack it should trigger. I’ve included two videos of the difference of manually activating before opponent uses s3 and just trying to tank an s3 with my 5/65 sig 200 thing. I’ve used it effectively a few times on this hype manually activating protective shielding with no issues but shouldn’t it activate automatically?
