Alliance war placement

Is there a strategy where no defender placement and only doing attack you can win a war?
If this is so our alliance will no longer participate in war. I cannot believe this strategy should work. Players who don’t place a minimum players should be locked out of attack phase.

Yes, theoretically you can win that war. However, it relies on your opponent not completing an empty map.

Any empty node is treated as if you defeated the champ on there without dying. The only way to win without placing a defense is if the opponent with the empty map misses those empty nodes, and you are able to defeat all of their defenders while losing fewer bonus than they leave on the ground.

There was a short period where what you are thinking of was possible, but that was several revisions ago, in the initial seasons. Now, if you do not place defenders, you are simply trying to lose and drop your alliance's rating.
