Health recovery in dungeon

I was told by an alliance member that I could recover my health in the dungeon by defeating certain champions, but he can’t explain how it’s done. Is this true?

When you fight the boss with both links down you heal each time you hit him, I think it’s on all levels but don’t quote me on that
