Slight Dilemma with locked map in 5.4

I'm currently doing 5.4 exploration, but the locked map is preventing me from seeing paths that I've already done. I've gotten lucky so far, but I messed up and now I'm faced with this. 
Only 80% complete, and I think I've got two paths. Question is, which one is it on?!
Do you guys have any tips on how to explore paths without having to go through and then realise you've already done the paths?
