War strategy?

Hey, I'm in a silver 1 alliance and the last season we were high silver 1 and after winning 5 wars in a row with 1bg we were still silver 1. So my question is do we need to do more bg? Also, on off season should we be purposely losing to get ready to win more for season? Thanks if you know! 🙌🏽☺️
