How to go about the rifts

I am planning on hoarding intel for a week and selling it all on the 7th day to do everything. that way I'll know by the third week if I want to go for the guaranteed item or just stay random. What is everyone else doing?

I'm going to save up for the thing that let's me choose from the get go before jumping into any rifts.

It'll be just my luck otherwise that a cosmic awakening gem will appear before I can choose, and then wont show up again when I have the option to pick.

Think you still get to do 12 rifts at epic level if you choose your rewards for one, which isn't bad!
