Matchmaking

This is not nessecarily a complaint, I'm just genuinely confused right now.

All the threads I've seen about flawed or unfair matchmaking recently were mostly about alliances at a similar war rating, but with an immense difference in player/alliance rating.

Fair enough is what I always thought. War rating is the most important factor.

Now, we're currently up against an alliance that is comparable in strength, but the difference between our and their war rating is ~600.

This seems a bit odd to me. Is this out of the ordinary or is this also something that is expected to happen? Just looking for some insight, please don't just generally rant about the matchmaking process.

Matchmaking is very random, at least you have similar strenght

It seems like current matchmaking is predominantly based on prestige.
If you're running 1 or 2 BG wars you're much more likely to be matched against an alliance with a wide gap in war rating.

We run 2 BGs and bar the one match two wars ago where everyone seemed to be matched on war rating only, we have only ever been matched on prestige.

We are 7.2k prestige, silver 2, 2 BGs, only a handful of 3/45 defenders, the rest all 4/55, 5/65 or 6 stars, war rating around 950.

But we only ever get matched with other silver 2/3 7k prestige Alliances. We never get "easy" match ups.
