We had an issue with war matchmaking

We normally run a 1 bg war, but we enlisted for a 2 bg war.

When matchmaking concluded we got a 1 bg war, and our upcoming matchmaking was cancelled.

You can't actually begin enlistment for the next war matchmaking until the current one has found you a match (plus up to a few more hours has gone by at beginning of placement).
