With nodes it would be exactly the same as using 5* or 6* champs.

Yes but more players can play and then you can use more champions
Not all have all 5 star champions
So the fight will be more fair and only the skill will count

this would've been a decent idea, except that 2 star doom, magik, warlock, thing, mordo.... exist.

No because all players will have these champions every month login crystal give a 3 star champion
While not all have 5 or 6 stars
So the war will be fun and not always the same alliances will be at the top positions because are full of 6s r3 in defense
You will win only if you are skilled
