Protection shields during enemy special 3!!

Hello all, hope everyone’s well.
One of my team mates was using Sym supreme against cap marvel movie. He pushed her to special 3 but expected his nulls shadow protection buff to only take 15% damage. He went from 80-0% from her special 3!
I know his Protection mentions it is 15% per hit but we also thought a special 3 would act as 1 hit? Have we learnt a big noob lesson here or is the game at it

What caps the damage is a green icon buff, that triggers at the same time as the blessing.
However it expires before the actual blessing itself. So what might have happened is, that your team mate didn't had the buff to cap the damage

Captain marvel's special 3 is multiple hits

It appears that way if you're watching the health bar; but from the perspective of the game engine, all SP3 attacks take effect as though inflicted by a single 'hit'.
