How exactly does Symbiote Supreme's power gain work?

I've read his abilities but all it says is "100% of genetic potential is consumed to gain up to 100% of a bar of power", so how is he power gaining from less than one bar up to a special 3? Am I reading it wrong? Missing something? I'm tired of getting one-shotted by his special 3 without even getting the chance to bait a special 1. If this is how he's supposed to work, how do I get around it? Do I need specific counters, or can I beat him with every champion using a certain playstyle?

He has normal power gain similar to Dr. Strange (although I think his is slower.) Whenever he is in a phase, if a buff or stagger falls off/if a buff is nulified, his genetic potential fills up until it reaches 100 genetic potential. After his phase ends, he gains a power gain buff that lasts a second or something and gives him whatever amount of power corresponding to the amount of genetic potential he had (25, 50, 75, 100)

You should be able to beat him with any champion, power control champs are probably the best option for him though

If it is on war defence it might be mystic dispersion or the node he is on, what node was he on?

I don't get it though because it says "100% of genetic potential is consumed to gain up to 100% of a bar of power" which means that he should gain one bar of power maximum, no? But instead he gets all 3 bars in an instant

Can you show the node of where you're fighting him? He could have an increased power gain node or something similar (he also automatically gains a bar of power when going through the duration of one of his phases)

Are you fighting him in arena or in a mode where the opponent could have masteries? MD could be affecting it idk. If that isn't the case then I don't know what's going on there

The power gained through Genetic Potential is in ADDITION to his regular power gain. If you look at his basic abilities, you'll see "Symbiote Supreme gains 100% less power from Attacking, Blocking, and being Struck. But gains 16.5% of his Max Power every 9 seconds."

THIS power gain is going on constantly, similar to Dr. Strange, as pointed out earlier. The extra bar of power he can gain from Genetic Potential (or 25%, 50%, or 75% of a bar) is in addition to this. If you play him, you may see your power gain very slowly through the first bar, but if, during that time, you hit 100 on Genetic Potential, he'll then quickly gain an ADDITIONAL full bar of power when the next Blessing triggers.

As for him suddenly going to full power, like mentioned above, that is likely an interaction with a specific node.

I hadn't finished the post previously. I added an additional comment that going to full power is likely a node interaction, as had been previously mentioned by another user. If you're in the Labs, there are all kinds of nodes that can trigger excessive power gain in champs either just from the champ or from your own champ as well (e.g. Spite).

Also in 5.1.5(burden of might) when I hit with sym supreme, he gains power the normal way along with the passive way he usually gains power by. I think this is a glitch because it doesn't happen anywhere else and it isn't in his ability description.

It is a bug involving Dexterity. The way Burden of Might works is your power rate is increased or decreased by the number of buffs active on your champion. The issue is Dexterity-Dexterity, when activated on hitting an opponent, procs twice-that's why MD will proc two times and why you get power drained twice on Burden of Might. After that, however, since you were credited for losing two buffs when there was only one on you, the game thinks you have negative one buffs and credits you with an increased power rate. Since Sym's base power rate is 0, his power rate goes up to 15%, I think, so he gets a small trickle of power from hits.
