So I stopped playing the game around when doom came out? Since then, is there any champions I should focus on for level and rank up? Thank you!

He is lying. The only people to have been recently buffed are Colossus Hulkbuster and both Magneto’s. All of which are very solid

I would watch gameplay videos of the aforementioned champs and choose who to focus on. (I personally would go for Mags Red or Colossus)

Edit: Also, BWCV is top 3 mystic champs. Definitely rank her up.
