I’ve got a few too. I assume they’ll disappear at some point because there’s nothing else we can do with them.

Buying of the Hearts Crystals was still available for several days into the new month (although they are gone from Store by now), so this month's update still had to have them visible. And will probably remain visible until next month's update.

My prediction: Shattered Heart shards will stay in your inventory next month, and the red number on your inbox will be the amount of shards you have remaining.

Also: heads will explode on the forums over the red number that won’t go away.
