CGR vs Hyperion: Who is Better?
So I'm genuinely interested in this 1v1. Who do you think is better between the two? I really don't think there is a wrong answer here, people's opinion will be biased based on who they prefer using/who they have. I will be absolutely clear on my bias, and for what it is worth, I have both champions on both my accounts and extensively have used both. I find myself leaning towards using CGR a bit more often, but both champions have undeniable damage and utiity. But I will be as objective as i can.
I think since Hyperion has been out for a much longer time this will push it in his favour, not as many people have CGR at the moment. I think if CGR and Hyperion were released at the same time, CGR would be much preferred for damage and utility, but that's only because Hyperion is tried and tested, and CGR is still finding his feet in content.
I know a lot of people tend to rate Hyperion above CGR, but I think a lot of people tend to only see CGR as a big damage champion, and forget that he has pretty insane utility for a champion with as much damage as he has. Power gain, vigilance, armour break, crazy good buff control (better than a lot of mystics), nice ish power control, energy attacks, shuts down champions like mysterio and killmonger, incinerate on sp1 and incinerate and bleed immunity along with one of the highest block proficiency in the game.
I love hyperion, don't get me wrong, and he is still very much one of the top cosmic champions. His power gain is brilliant, much better than CGR which allows him to special intercept, he has incredible damage but not as high as CGR, poison immune is nice, and armour break on sp2 is nice but not as reliable as CGR, incinerate on sp1 too is higher damage than CGR, energy resist is nice occasionally too and he has a very underused regen.
Both have some cons too, they both lose some usability in stun immune situations, Hyperion can't parry heavy, and CGR can't parry, heavy into SP3 and go straight in- but CGR can still pull off an intercept without dexing, hard but doable. Hyperion is safer in stun immune with special intercept, but he loses a lot of damage with no furies. A huge con people seem to point out on CGR is you can't dex, which is not true. There are a lot of rotations which give him plenty of damage and the ability to dex in all but about 4 seconds where you can just parry. Or you can play it riskier and try not to dex.
Taking an objective look at aspects to both champions:
Power gain: Hyperion is better and more consistent, CGR has it more as a part of his rotation
Armour break: CGR is better, stronger and more consistent
Immunity: CGR- I find bleed and incinerate together is more useful than poison on it's own
Sustainability: fairly equal, but Hyp takes it I think, his regen vs very high block proficiency of CGR
Damage: CGR by quite a bit, I don't think anyone can disagree here
Buff Control: CGR, no contest
DOT: Hyperion wins here, his sp1 is much better for incinerate
Dealing with stun immune: Safety wise, Hyperion wins with special intercept, damage wise CGR wins as he doesn't lose too much
Dealing with healing- CGR has more debuffs and heal block with his sig so he wins here, Hyperion has debuffs from SP1
Other little pieces of utility- Hyp has energy resist, CGR has vigilance which can come in handy and high crit rate for when you want to crit a lot
So in conclusion, it is very close- both are very good champions and would be worthy to rank up. I think personally as time goes on, CGR will be a bit of a higher skill cap than Hyperion, which is why he won't be everyone's preferred option over Hyperion. Hyperion will remain tried and tested- both of them top cosmic options.
What do you think? Any points to add or discuss?
