Why is changing one's email address so difficult

I recently tried to sign into the forums. I signed up with an account I no longer use. I was fortunate I saved the bookmark which saved the info, however I cant change it to something current. And yes though the security measures are good, you go a bit overboard with so many questions. Having to verify a purchase on a non purchase item is a bit overkill. And like someone else said, I have been playing for a few years and have changed phones when updates no longer work on certain phones. There needs to be some middle ground.
