King Groot Rework Concept
When I first started playing the game and came upon King Groot, I was instantly smitten by how cool he looked and I desperately tried to find out more about him. At that time, I wasn't aware that Kabam occasionally came up with their own champions and that there wasn't a King Groot in the comics. I was sad, and even sadder still when I realized that his noodle-tier abilities didn't really match his super cool design.
I can't write him into any comics, but I can write a concept for a redesign.
Signature Ability - A Crown of Thorns
Dare not lay a hand on the king. Whenever an opponent’s damaging Debuff effects remove one of King Groot’s indefinite Buffs, the Buffs deal a burst of Direct Damage to the opponent before being paused. When unpausing, they also apply a Poison effect on the opponent.
Passive
The Old Forest
King Groot is fully immune to Bleed and 100% Resistant to all known Poisons of the Battlerealm. This Poison Resistance cannot be decreased by Ability Accuracy Modifications, and Poisons do not reduce King Groot's Health Recovery in any way.
Tech Tree
Against Tech champions, every Purified Debuff grants King Groot an Armor Break charge whenever he gains a Poison charge. When applied, these Armor Breaks last indefinitely. Max 6 stacks.
Personal Growth
King Groot’s indefinite Buffs cannot be removed in any way, only paused. If he is under the effect of a Fate Seal or a similar ability that denies the triggering of Buffs, they remain paused for its duration. These paused effects still count as Buffs, but cannot be siphoned away or in any other way interacted with while in their paused state.
The Cycle of Life and Death
King Groot begins the fight with 2 indefinite Fury Buffs, each increasing his Attack Rating by 1500.
Cycle 1: The Seed
Each time he receives a Debuff, pause one of the Fury Buffs and start a 0,5-second timer. When the timer expires, Purify the Debuff and gain a passive Regen charge. Damaging Debuffs placed by Mystic champions cannot be Purified.
When his last Fury Buff is paused, he enters his cooldown mode for 10 seconds. While in cooldown, any Regen charges are activated. Additionally, any Debuff placed on King Groot is Purified after 2 seconds and turned into a passive Poison charge on the opponent.
When his cooldown ends, he automatically applies all passive Poison charges to the opponent, unpauses all Fury Buffs and gains 2 indefinite Precision Buffs increasing his Critical Rating by 300 each.
Cycle 2: The Growth
Each time King Groot receives a Debuff from now on, in addition to the previous effects, pause one of the Precision Buffs and gain a Physical Resistance Buff lasting until the Precision Buff is unpaused again at the end of the cooldown period.
When the cooldown ends, automatically unpause all Buffs and apply all Poison charges, then gain 2 indefinite Cruelty Buffs each increasing Critical Damage Rating by 2000.
Cycle 3: The Poisonous Fruits
Each time King Groot receives a Debuff from now on, in addition to the previous effects, gain a Critical Resistance Buff lasting until the Cruelty Buff is unpaused again at the end of the cooldown period.
When the cooldown ends, automatically unpause all Buffs and apply all Poison charges, and gain an indefinite Aptitude Buff increasing the potency of all of King Groot’s Buffs and Poisons by 50%. Each new cycle grants one additional indefinite Aptitude Buff, up to 3.
Special Attack 1
If King Groot has placed any passive Poison charges on the opponent, detonate all of them instantly for 150% damage.
If King Groot has placed any Armor Breaks on the opponent, detonate all of them instantly and Stun the opponent for 0,3 seconds for each Armor Break detonated.
If King Groot has any active indefinite Buffs, Armor Break the opponent once for every Buff on King Groot. Armor Breaks last until he enters his cooldown phase. These Armor Breaks are not detonated by this Special Attack but can be detonated by subsequent ones if they remain until then.
Special Attack 2
100% chance to Poison the opponent once for every Buff on King Groot.
If King Groot has placed any passive Poison charges on the opponent, instantly activate them as Neurotoxin Debuffs. Each Neurotoxin lasts 15 seconds, deals twice the amount of damage a Poison Debuff would, blocks any Regeneration, and reduces Ability Accuracy by 15%.
If the target is a Robot, this attack Armor Shatters them for 25 seconds instead.
Special Attack 3
100% chance to reapply up to 10 Poison effects, lasting for as long as King Groot has Fury Buffs. If King Groot has no Fury Buffs when using the SP3, they last for their normal duration.
70% chance to reapply up to 4 Neurotoxins for 20 seconds. These Neurotoxins are passive, deal 75% of the damage a Poison debuff would, and reduce Ability Accuracy by 25%.
100% chance to Stun the opponent for 0,3 seconds for each Armor Break detonated in the fight, up to 6 seconds.
