Is Shang-Chi not in the “Get Shang-Chi and Spider-verse Champions” Bundle?

Wicket329Wicket329 Member Posts: 3,777 ★★★★★
Just going through the mail and it seems super misleading. Shang-Chi’s name is on the crystal but he’s not listed as being in it?

Am I just missing something or is this bad marketing?

Surely it's a mistake in the item listing

When you go into the store and tap the crystal for the list, he’s not in there either.

Yeah I meant I think they just forgot to write down his name on all the lists, if it has his namw he should be in the crystal

It does, in fact, say who is going to be in there. And Shang-Chi is missing.

Lol it would be dumb if he's not in it but I think it's just a mistake, def not gonna buy to find out though

Stories of Shang-Chi doesn't necessarily mean Shang-Chi is in it but tbh, it feels like a cheap move to not include an amazing champion.

If it said “Get Champions from the Stories of Shang-Chi” in the title, I’d be willing to give a little bit. But it literally says “Get Shang-Chi AND...”

If Shang-Chi’s not in there, that is some real shoddy drafting.

Maybe it means Get "Shang-Chi and Spiderverse Champions" and not Get "Shang-Chi" and "Spiderverse Champions"

I’m sure that’s what it means after taking 20 minutes to discuss it on the forums, but that doesn’t make it any less misleading to somebody who hops on the game and picks it up hoping for a chance at Shang-Chi when they see GET SHANG-CHI

Oops missed that. Does seem shoddy but if it's just a case of Shang-Chi being forgotten to be added to the bundles....

Come on Kabam, atleast release offers without bugs and the need to retune them or something. Improve the quality control for heaven's sake.

Well, the point of this post is I guess to just make sure people know he’s not in there. I nearly went for it, I’m glad I caught this before buying in.

The crystal says Web's and Rings. It has a picture of Sunspot, Namor and Stealth Suit Spider-Man. Where did you get that it's Shang-Chi and spiderverse champions?

Edit: I see under the name of the crystal now.

Just posting the mail heading for others to see...this honestly is misleading and very poor on kabam’s part that they would frame the title in such a way
English is a weird language when written.

The line as written can mean two things, and that's dependant on how you interpret it.

First, Get Shang Chi (champion) and Spider verse champions. This one is the version I imagine people are expecting. Not unreasonable to think that Shang would be in the crystals.

However, and the way I interpret it, is get Shang Chi and Spider verse champions. Meaning champions related to Shang Chi and Spider verse. Now this may seem misleading because there is no explicit "Shang Chi verse" so it's easier to see it as the former interpretation. But we also have to consider 2 factors within the wording. First of all, character limitation within the text, they simply cannot add more letters into the subheading without potential text bleed or other issues with how it presents itself on different devices (this is very common especially when needing to be localised into other languages and since most translations are made based on the English string text it may have to be shortened due to the nature of how other languages character usage differs). The second factor of the wording, is that unless stated as a specific champion bundle (which is usually worded as such) we can naturally assume that Shang Chi will not be in such a limited champion pool, given that he is a new champion and hasn't even entered into a featured 5 or 6* crystal yet. Outside of rare occurrences, I can't think of a time we could easily obtain a new champion from a smaller pool so soon, with the exception of the year based Cavs we got.

So yeah. While it may be disappointing, I don't think their intention was to mislead at all. It's a matter of interpretation and potentially technical limitations.

Those are very reasonable explanations, and I agree that it almost certainly wasn’t the intent. I read poorly-written agreements and such all day, it happens.

But the intent is only part of the picture. My issue is that it does convey the message to anybody skimming through it, which, let’s be honest, is more attention than most of the player base gives to the body of text in these messages, that Shang-Chi is in this crystal. And he’s not.

Just something that players and whoever wrote the ad copy for this need to be aware of.

I agree but how this wording went past proof reading is beyond me...almost 99% people reading that subheading would assume that shang chi is in the crystal and anybody who would proof read that subheading would know that it can and would be interpreted in that way...i still stand with the fact that it is a blatantly misleading heading

Bruh... he's probably as well known a spider-man character as Miles Morales because of the game

Yeah, but his name isn’t on the crystal so I don’t have an issue with that.

Actually I guess you could say he isn't a spider-verse character since the other villains on there had their first appearance in spider-man
