Nexus crystal mechanics questions

A couple of questions on Nexus crystal mechanics:
1. Once you open them, is there a time limit to make your choice?
2. If the game crashes or you close it, does it bring you right back to the nexus crystal choice when you log back in or back to the home screen?

There's no time limit and the game comes right back at your nexus crystal selection if it crashes/force closes.
