Node 41 - Suppression?

Hey Folks - Not sure if this is a bug but its never happened to me before so I wanted to ask about it.
AW Tier 8 Node 41 - Strike Counter - Combat Power Rate
Defender was awakened 5 star Killmonger. I was using Doom as my attacker.
Starting almost at the beginning of the fight when Killmonger hit me or hit into my block a red "suppression" would appear near Doom. It looked just like what happens during War Machine's SP1. When I hit Killmonger I generated almost no power. I used my SP1 and still generated no power after that SP1. In the entire fight I generated 3 SP1s. I've got 2 points in MD.
I've fought that node in prior wars and never noticed any mention of the word "Suppression" popping up. I understand the node mechanics that after you use the charges you will start decreasing the power generated from attacks until you use a Special. I usually use Doom for that node because the MD power gain allows for quick generation of Specials.
