What happened to "just log on and smash out a few paths"?

There used to be a playstyle where you could log on, take your team of moment and run a few paths in a quest.
You might need to the occasional counter to a difficult node or enemey champ but not always.
When you wanted to try something different you could go a variant or explore the left over paths in a story quest.
That casual playstyle has gone.
The counter-play game style has taken over all the quests. This playstyle is more of a take these 2 or 3 champs and run every fight with them. If its the last quest in Cavalier that a lot of repetitive fights.
Some people like that like that but I don't, the way I used to engage with the game has been removed and the remaining options are unpalatable.
Anyone else feeling similar?

I just like cav eq because of that. It gives some champions the little bit of extra damage they need and makes them fun to play.
Because for most people, that's boring.
If you run against something with no challenge for long enough most people walk away. The game naturally evolves by virtue of new characters needing to be new and distinct, which means new abilities which means new methods to counter those abilities. They have to keep the game fresh for most of us to keep playing, or the game would die out.
You have to keep moving or you'll drown, which is especially true in the world of game development.
