Short version: nodes are like Yugi, they have their own rules. In this case, it reflects the stun rather than purify it. Just put a romance synergy on the team and you will be fine.

It says that he will purify any debuff applied with the stun but not the stun itself, that should be reflected. I know that he works the way you said but the description would suggest a different scenario, like what's shown in the first post or like the Bullet Time node ^_^

It literally says purify right there

Well you should read it again
It says the effect applied with Stun meanwhile stun effect applied physically gets reflected back to opponent.
Physical stun are different than some nodes like Encroaching stun

Because more then likely BPCW is supposed to purify the stun; you can also read "stun effects" and not just debuffs even though he can't interact with passive stuns. Simply he's an old champion at this point, and with all new effects and the growing complexity of this game his description doesn't match how he perfoms in-game anymore ^_^
