Safeguard in war + timeout issue

I've run into an issue where firstly: Guardian sp2 is not bypassing safeguard despite it having a very potent shock and big red numbers to go with it. 24 charges sp2 against a sasquatch with 0 rage and I did a total 11%. Secondly: in the final seconds throw a last ditch effort sp2 to bring him to 3% hp and give an sp3 just so we can finish him quickly in the next fight because a timeout is inevitable. During his Sp3 I get a timeout notice and then the fight finishes only for him to be 100% hp and my guardian on 50% hp which awarded a defender kill but most annoyingly that I come out with no damage on a fight that is very simple
