Why are the war participation numbers wrong?

Why would the participation give an incorrect number? And what impact does it have on points???
As you can see it shows 29 for one alliance, (which is mine!) And we had 28 participants not 29!
Note that our opponent shows 28 when they only had 27!
Why have 2 participants been added???
One each???
Surely the input system would not cause this bug!!!
And no nobody that did not place for defense joined the attack! We had 2 brand new members join right at the end of placement and they did not participate!

    And our opponent had exactly 27 members in their alliance. And now they are down 2 more because 2 bailed or got booted mid match. So yeah! Nobody joined attack that did not place for defense!
    Those numbers are just wrong!
    By one participant each!
