The second you can trade resources between players is the second this game opens a second dangerous economy, especially if players can gift resources.

This is the sort of thing that seriously damaged the integrity of many online games. RuneScape - the biggest MMORPG in the world - was almost killed by this sort thing. They had to disable trading in 2007, which almost killed them, rebooted it in 2011 and have spent the last 10 years dealing with internal gambling and the black market that’s arisen as a result of all of this. I know people who genuinely bought and sold in game currencies wholesale as their 9-5, I managed to fund flights for travel through Australia, New Zealand, Bali and Singapore for 2 on the back of selling the gold I made over my time playing when I quit - almost £7k all said, and that’s not even a drop in the ocean. This game has a bigger active player base.

This game does not need that kind of baggage, trust me .

What about self conversion. Not that it would ever be a great deal but it would be interesting. And then no black market will rise

That is what the OP was originally inquiring about (or so it seems) and the answer is: stuff that's reasonable to convert we can already convert via various stores and exchanges. We can convert units to gold, for example, by buying gold crystals. But the stuff we can't convert, we generally cannot convert deliberately, because it would open the door to significant imbalance issues. And you can't easily fix that by just setting an appropriate exchange rate, because different players have radically different surpluses. I have over 300 million gold. If you're going to allow players to trade gold for some other valuable resource, what price could you possibly set that would simultaneously prevent me from getting huge amounts of it, but wouldn't basically lock out 99% of the players from ever using the trade ever? You can't: there's no splitting the difference there. Even escalating costs, like that implemented in the glory store, would really do much.
