BG timer change

I've noticed that BG fight time now counts time spent in loading screen. Previously, it counted from fight start.

For people like me with old low-end devices, it results in an inflated fight time. I've lost matches because of it.

This needs to be changed. I can't think of any possible benefit from it

I posted this in another thread. The benefit is that you can force close your app at any moment and get to try the fight again. The 2nd timer makes it very difficult to take advantage of this.

There are actually 2 fight timers. One is 120 seconds long. You will never get into a fight and get more than basically 1 Minute 55 Seconds to complete your fight. There is also a second timer that I believe is roughly 132 seconds long. This is how long the game mode is willing to wait for you to deliver a fight result. It is a few seconds longer specifically to account for differences in device loading times. When the fight starts, the timer you see is the shorter of the two. If your device or your internet has a slow enough loading time, you basically won't get the full 2 minutes to complete a fight. If this happens, your Fight Duration scoring Metric is not affected but you obviously do have a little less time to complete the fight.

This is a bit confusing. I'm complaining because I've had increased fight durations. There was one particularly bad case where I got only 45 seconds of fight time since the rest was spent on the loading screen. It was CGR so I finished on time but got 70s/80s+ fight duration. And I lost what should have been an easy win.

I usually get 120s of average fight time due to the long loading screen. It's something I've learned to live with and have structured my playstyle and bans accordingly. This change takes a bad situation and makes it worse.

I'm getting confused here as well as any time I've had a long loading screen, it has never actually impacted the Fight Duration scoring metric. Yes I might have less time to get the fight down. I have had the fight load in slow and only get minute or so remaining and when I got the KO, my fight duration was only like 50 seconds and scored appropriately. It doesn't appear that there has been a change to the scoring.

I'm wondering exactly where your screen is stalling? For me if would be right after the the prefight timer. The timer would get to 0 and often it pauses for only a few seconds but sometimes significantly longer which is when I'm experiencing the issue. Is the case for you specifically on the next screen, the one with the month's splash image?

Both actually. There's a 5-10s stall before the splash screen. Then a long splash screen before the fight. The initial stall wasn't there when BG launched. I noticed it after one of the mid-month updates
