Can we all agree these are the most useless addition to the game since relics. (Please argue about relics elsewhere)

They are 100% pointless. I think they should add a way to turn them off instead of hitting mute every single match. A few people have been spamming them non stop.

I fully agreed, if Kabam insist in introducing this pointless function, that only encourages toxic behaviour then Kabam can at least provide an option to turn it off from the system menu, instead of having to mute it every match.

Hey Summoners,

Emotes are a staple in a lot of competitive games/game modes. They're a way to playfully communicate with your opponent and they come conveniently paired with a mute button; two taps and they go away!

Emotes are, as intended, an aesthetic add-on with no impact on the rest of the game. Their implementation is, similar to relics, meant to allow uninterested summoners to ignore them. They're there for the people that like them and want to use them, and can be easily circumnavigated if you don't!

Its two taps every match. All anyone wants is one tap to get rid of permanently just like with the special 3 display.

Can we get the ability to permanently silence them? Making us do 2 taps each match to mute is essentially like forcing this thing down our throats. For people who want to use, that’s fine but those of us that don’t want to use them, we should get the ability to permanently toggle this shut.

But you don’t need extra taps to ignore relics and you don’t need to constantly re-establish ignoring them. There should be a permanent function, like the check boxes we have for chats and “beta” features”, that we can check to indefinitely mute them. Instead we have to actively ignore the function, which is really requiring us to give more attention to it. I currently have no personal opinion on the emotes, but to say it’s set so that summoners can ignore them is an incorrect statement in their current state.

I am in favor of having emotes or something like them, but I am not understanding the design of these initial ones. I clicked the button to choose one and except for Mute had no idae which one means what.

I am thinking that some stylized comic book "Ka-Pow!" and "Boom!" emotes would be more fun.

Appreciated your reply, however let break this down by points.

"a way to playfully communicate..." - let be blunt in a competitive mode the main form of communication would lean more on the aggressive side. If Kabam want to test out a new form of "playful communicate" method, why not introduce it into Incursion first where players are in a supportive roles rather than competitive.

"...similar to relics..." - actually this is incorrect, with relics, have them or not, does not affect a player mental health, but emotes in a competitive mode can for some players.

"uninterested summoners can ignore.." - in that case please ask the development team to provide an off option from the setting menu, there are people that really want to completely ignore (and not be reminded every match).

By making players to have to mute in evey match, this is does feel like a forceful way for Kabam to enforce this. Please note children also play this game, it would be better and safe to have to option to turn it off in the setting, like turn off Global Chat.

While I think the emotes designs are great, the addition of it to BG (without an off option in setting) seem like an unsafe thing to do.

Really hope Kabam will review this.

There is a game that uses emotes. At one point, it hit the top grossing game spot. This game had an active forum, too. The forums were filled daily with constant arguing about emote usage. Yes, the game had a mute option. They were almost exclusively used for insulting opponents. The few people that wanted to use them for fun and playfulness were constantly harassed. At first, the developer added an emote limit to prevent spamming. Then they added a delay between emotes to prevent that spamming.

Players asked for an option that allowed their opponent to see emotes are muted. It was found out that players inherently believed emotes to always be on. The idea was that if unsportsmanlike players saw how many people had emotes muted; they’d slow down on their constant toxic behavior. The developer refused stating they wanted people to still feel like their emotes were being seen. Of course they did, they sold emotes. If someone saw how many people had them muted; they’d be less likely to buy emotes.

It wasn’t a year later that these constant arguments became too much for the community manager. They decided to permanently close the forum for that game (keeping it open for their other games). The game has since fallen to around 250 in the rankings. The toxic player base remains one of the biggest complaints.

I believe you will learn to (secretly) rue emotes being added to the game.

Another vote for having a global mute button in the Settings, as opposed to needing to specifically turn it off for the opponent.

I never said it ‘brings me joy’ but kabam are putting a fun component into battlegrounds which doesn’t really make any difference to the game itself and people seem to be massively overreacting in a negative way
