an interesting new node would be something that effects masteries, like mastery duplication where the defender gets all the same masteries you have, or mastery deletion where masteries are disabled, or max masteries where the defender has every mastery maxed out

Not really, it's better to increase AI difficulty then giving them masteries. Just imagine AI self healing through willpower. In Battlegrounds you already have this and it's jank from time to time, hitting in to block and you get stunned
