Direct damage simply means it's not affected by physical and energy resist or armour

Not really. Direct damage is simply a damage type. Galan is doing red secondary damage while purgatory is doing sp3 hit damage. Cap is supposed to apply to sources . Not damage types.

Lol damage is capped for hit damage. Which is what sp3 is. If you go into abyss harvest damage is also capped.

I'm guessing when lol was made there wasn't a concern that red numbers would ever hit 50k so they didn't care to cap it. Loki used to be able to go well beyond the cap and he was changed . But they didn't cap the red

Damage cap only affects hit damage. Any red numbers are not affected by them. As galan did red numbers to opponent it did full damage, but purgatory hit damage cannot do the same.also it's not direct damage which ignores armour and resistance, it's true damage. Or i have missed something
