Kinda lost and would appreciate some guidance on which champs best deserve investment, as
A. An attacker
B. A defender (aw)
C. All rounder (suitable choice for both)

Have an inclination toward Emma Frost.

Spot and cap iw are some better choices being all rounders. Knull as an attacker if awakened high sig

Nick fury is your next R3. 100%. Guardian, Spot, and Knull are also good but need sig 200.

Spot, Galan, Nick, Knull are arguably good on both attack and defense (depending on the meta, all are good BG deck members). Peni and Darkhawk are very annoying defenders. Emma would be if awakened (due to reversed controls). Red Hulk and Medusa are pretty strong attackers (Medusa especially against robots but also things she can stack up bleeds on).

In my opinion, NF is your best choice for being great both as an attacker and as defender.
Close second is Galan, followed up by Stealthy and Spot.
As for Emma you referred, she ain't bad but she'd better be awakened to have the maximum of her defensive value.
NF is a great all around investment, and he is the most popular skill champion for a reason 😉
