I have one Y/N question after this event.

Do you believe the game can be played competitively without spending?

AQ, definitely not, but I do want to remind everyone that a year ago, r4s were few and far between, even for paragons. Now they're very common and easy to get as a paragon. You can get 1 r4 every other week in bgs now. Though it seems very out of reach, the game will eventually catch up.

What comes to mind when it’s said competitive? Of course it’s AQ, BGs, and actually AW considering prestige on big rewards.

In BGs yes. Roster is less of a factor than skill. In war and aq. Highly unlikely.

    AQ - Definitely Not

High tier BG (Celestial+) - Perhaps not but technically possible

High tier AW - Mostly yes but in a few months from now, most of the top alliances wouldn't want to recruit someone who can't offer 5 R5/R2 defenders.....& If those alliances care about AQ (which most of them do) then also u can't find a spot there

And I personally include non-grinders whenever I talk about non-spenders

I do not think so unfortunatelly. I am a 17.3k 2mil very-very occasionally spender, I currently play top p3 ally top 70 AQ. I always pursued to play on the very top level, but with these deals coming like quarterly now it is further and further away.

AQ is impossible to play competitively unless spending by design.
AW becomes more and more impossible even if you are skilled, master allys will want your defenders to be r5s and 7* r2s, also time is sometimes the deciding factor there, so bigger acc is preferred.
BGs will be impossible to play as well, sure there are unskilled players who you will always be able to beat with smaller roster, but people invested know the meta, the counters and in the end will have the upper hand in matchups far more frequnetly. Playing always as an underdog will highly decrease your chance to reach celestial.

I always hated deal events, but this one is even more disgusting, lots of top players did not even had as many r5s as a random paragon is able to puchase now (for a fotune btw).
I am honestly discouraged by this event and even consider to stop playing :(

No one's stopping you from doing that
    A break is always helpful
I myself am on a break and it feels amazing as I no longer have to worry about doing an event quest or anything whatsoever
It's actually mind blowing to think about how much time I used to spend thinking about the game
