AW champion locks

When you place two different map of defenders in alliance war is it normal for the champions in the higher/lower tier map to also be locked during war? I'm currently unable to use champs that are placed in the next tier map and not being used as a current defender, down 10 champs instead of 5

    Yes, they are all locked.

    You can place the *SAME* champs in each of the +/- alternate tier maps as what you have in “current” tier map.
    Then only 5 will be locked out.

    Yea but we are between tier 5 and 6 ATM alot so I use my crush defense in tier 5 but my best defence in tier 6.
