Does anyone new get into MCOC anymore?

I've been thinking a bit about this topic. Contest of Champions has never been more complex. I've been playing for over five years at this point and feel like a new player would be baffled by all of the modes, all of the champion effects, just everything that gets added after the first few fights. I'd argue all of the new champs added to the game in the last two years are pretty complex with their kits are not beginner friendly at all. Furthermore, most of the best champs in the game need explainers to understand their mechanics all of which are offsite.

This personally isn't a problem for me, but I'm very concerned about the long term health of the game. I think for experienced players, there is a ton to do each month and most of it is relatively interesting. Even without calendars, I would log in each day with both my accounts (main is valiant, secondary is paragon) to run through War or Event Quest or 22 hour events or whatever. I feel like if you were to enter into the game and stick with it, you'd be rewarded with a ton of fun content, it's just that the game is overwhelming at first blush.

Is there anyone new who has joined the game within the last year or so willing to share their experiences entering the game? How was it? Was there anything to onboard you into the game beyond the first few quests showing you how to tap out a combo and charge a heavy? Are there any resources that you use now that would have been helpful to have at the beginning?

Kabam is constantly revamping and reworking the beginning of the game for newer players, except the training area

Most of the stuff has gateways...
Its not like they throw everything at you as soon as you start playing.

People typically get to act 5 before they even start experiencing trouble in the game which is pretty much long enough to get them hooked into the game.

Just like any matured game, it will be easy to get lost with the gamemodes, but that isn't unique for mcoc. Marvel Future Fight also has a ton of different gamemodes and whatnot yet they still do fine.

I personally don’t care to know if new users ‘get into mcoc’.

What I would really like to know is the churn rate of new users in 2023 vs 2020 vs 2017 vs 2014.

If the rate peaked in 2020 and is dipping in 2023, then yes the game may have gotten too complicated for users to stick. And if not, then the direction that Kabam is taking is the right one.

    Just my thoughts.

My sister started playing in early April last year, so she's coming up on a year of playing. She's solidly hooked. She plays more than I do, and got Uncollected inside 6 months. I was still Conqueror at the time because I couldn't be bothered to do Act 5, but after she did it, I decided I ought to get to it and did it. She doesn't do much arena, but she does AQ with me, does some Incursions, does MEQ and SQ. She also did all of the Back Issues last year on Classic difficulty.

Couple of Irl friends picked the game up, got to between end of act 5 and act 6, and dropped it like a ton of bricks when they could no longer walk the content, you either persevere through because you're addicted to the game/learn how to play properly, or you just uninstall once you're no longer handheld through the early acts by getting early 5*s
