I would like to present my argument for the closest champion to magik as a 7*, at least, offensively (especially with a synergy): Spider-Gwen.
Why is this? Her special 1 gives an enervate, this enervate prevents the opponent from gaining power when struck, effectively special locking them. This allows you to play extremely aggressively, when and combined with a relic, this can reward a hyper-aggressive play style. Already this is extremely extremely useful. For several bosses in 8.4, e.g. the Ikaris, I was able to chain 5 hit combo —> relic pop —> 5 hit combo —> sp1 on repeat (the 200% spirit gain really helped out here). This is how a typical BGs fight will go more or less with Gwen on offense, most of the time I get >50k points using her.
Now, in the first line, we say “especially with a synergy,” what exactly do we mean by this? Well the Peni Parker synerg— just kidding, this is the one that everybody talks about so we won’t talk about it today. There is one synergy which isn’t talked about as much with Gwen, the spider-man supreme synergy. This synergy increases the duration of Gwen’s enervate debuffs by 1.75 seconds, a 17.5% increase in duration! This synergy allows her to keep the enervates up much longer making the power lock much easier to keep. Adding on the spiderman 2099 relic would allow you to further increase the duration of her enervate. With this, she can operate just as magik would in a majority of situations (of course if a node gives the opponent power or they have an ability to do so, Gwen won’t stop that while magik would).

I treated this like one would a causal fight, I even mess up a few times. In 4 minutes total, he only throws 5 sp1s.

Magik’s other main ability is limbo, allowing her to recover damage she takes while it’s active. While Gwen does not have this, she does boast a hefty 35% chance to evade (which one can increase to 45%+ via synergies) which can get you out of a jam when you need it to.
Gwen may not quite be at the level of Magik, but with enough skill and a hyper-aggressive play style, she can serve a similar purpose, and (in my opinion), serve as a decent approximation to Magik. I don’t expect anyone to look at this and immediately decide to r3 Gwen as I have, but if you have her and haven’t played her much, perhaps she could be worth a second look.

Spider Gwen is great, but how does she do against Hyperion, Mordo etc?

You also did these fights in places where AI is forgiving and passive
Try to do it in war or act-8, just few hours ago my LadyD got light intercepted 3 times in a single match.
AI these days particularly light intercept when:
1.getting up after knock down (3-4 months ago you could easily knock down with heavy and dash in for combo, it would either connect or AI will block, now it's 80% guarantee that AI will light intercept.
2. AI stands still, tempering you to dash in, you will, it's now muscle memory, then AI WILL dash back at last moment into light intercept 😀
3. AI holds block, you dash in hit 2-3 times on block and dash back to make AI follow you, no no no, these days AI will NOT follow but just wait for you to return dash to hit with that light intercept.
4. AI recovers too fast after throwing specials, especially in BG, like it will throw special projectile, you dex then go dash in to punish AI, SURPRISE !!!! Light intercept. 😞
AI is changed dramatically and kanam refuses to look at it for months now
She’s always been great imo
