Valiant Crystal Reels - Most dishonest thing in MCOC?

BigBlueOxBigBlueOx Member Posts: 2,369 ★★★★★
How is it that a pull that has a 0.5% chance of being pulled present in 99% of my final reels?

I’m used to crystal reels being a “gotcha” mechanic but I mean this one feels gross at this point.

Okay, it seems this is coming up again for some reason, but there seems to be some misconception and conspiracy, so here goes.
The reel is not representative of anything. It's a visual effect. This hasn't been a secret, ever. They've told us many times.
The outcome is generated the second we click Open, or place the Crystal to spin. There's no rolling of outcomes.
It's not even possible to display a true representation of the drop rates because there's not enough time in the spin. It's just a random display of some of the outcomes. That's randomized based on the number of outcomes and not their rate of occurrence.

OP already addressed that in his post but thanks for your input.

It's just that this specific crystal is a bit too much on the bait side of things compared to previous crystals.
How did the OP address what I said in his Post?

spinning crystals means nothing, it already decided what you will get after you pushed to stop the spinning, if you don't believe, have one your ally teammate to see the alliance general tab and see what you get. As soon as you push your screen to stop the spinning, they can see what champs you get, but for you, the spinning still happening but slowing down. Spinning crystals just wasting your time buddy

I agree with all of that. It’s why I referred to it as a “gotcha” mechanic. It’s a mechanic that is used in plenty of games of chance. My point is that in this crystal it’s completely over done.

The reels are incredibly manipulative and gross. It shows you tons of good stuff and always rolls over to the lone stinker. Imagine if you didn’t look at the odds, because the reels make you think that the good stuff is realistically achievable when in reality it’s not at all. It’s one of the nastiest part of this game by far.

Gee.... If only Kabam has told people from the beginning that the reel is for entertainment purposes only....

@BigBlueOx it must be the old reel coding from way back when. I recall watching the 4* parade on a PHC spin just before the animation slammed the breaks on the only 2* around.

Calling it a gotcha mechanic is really up for debate, and we could argue it until the cows come home. There are arguments on either side.
The part that is not really acknowledged is it's not anything anyone has designed differently. It's the same reel effect that's been used all along. There are a number of specific possibilities and the reel displays those on a random basis. It's not meant to reflect the actual odds of what you can get.

The point is, the ones who have been playing for a long time are obviously aware that it means nothing and it's " entertainment" but there are a lot of new summoners who probably don't. They might see the spin and be like " that was real close, let's try another..."

That's false, the 'missed items' are not random. Those are strategically placed there.

Idc about it anyway, when you see it gets an eye roll and that's about it.
