Duping a 2* with Collector Crystals

How does duping a 2* work with the Collector crystals? Does the sig level increase by 1 or 7? I noticed that some of my 2* got a 7 level increase (e.g. Spider Gwen, Cosmic Spidey) while other (Hood, Thor Ragnarok, Morningstar) got only a 1 level increase.

2* always increase by 1.
3* increase by 8 and 4* by 1 or 20 depending on the way you duplicate them.
