BGs - Should we go back to 2 metas in GC?

I think AI was only part of the problem on display in the realm event. Sure we all know that it’s not behaving right now, and at times was god awful (most times) but this was also exacerbated by a meta that required AI cooperation… and that meta lasted all month.

Going back to 2 metas decreases the potential impact of the AI in the future and the chance of burnout it may cause too. The node resets also increase interest in the mode as it’s like a mini season within the season, giving players a fresh chance to engage and it helps wipe away any frustration.

Curious what others are thinking, but my feedback to the team is we should go back to 2 as the minimum number of metas in GC.

Curious how often do you play BGs? How soon do you get into the GC? And where do you finish?

I probably should have added, I’m typically in the GC within 5 days of season start, and finish in the Mysterium brackets. I also usually finish top 2000 or higher in participation. So I’m not the highest grinder or pushing C4, but I play a lot and am competitive. I think that makes it a fairly informed opinion. Would love to how this insightful response is being informed.

I go to gc by 14th day.

So during the two weeks meta I always missed the first one. Also rank up materials are rare to get, one month meta means it's easy to rank up meta specific champs. And You don't have to frequently change decks

Eh I think the rank ups and strategic reset are part of what makes it better to have multiple metas. Also getting stuck in a bad meta for a full month just makes the whole mode feel terrible. Shorter metas reduce this chance.

No offense though, but based on this response it doesn’t seem like you played the seasons where there were multiple metas in GC in a meaningful way to know the difference though. But I can appreciate those with less developed rosters probably see this shift to a single meta positively. Fair enough.

I fully enjoyed "crit intercept" meta
Long metas actually forces you to adjust your deck, short 2 week meta is whatever and can be ignored.

Forcing players into discomfort situations actually pushes them to do better, make them use gold rankup materials and open crystals, good business.

If metas are changing every other week then players can just decide to lay low for first meta and go ham on second.

1 meta means if the meta ends up being a dud, then you can at least wait until it ends to start playing or can push early and get most of your grind out of the way. Imagine if we had archaos for 4 weeks💀.

I also sincerely disagree with the sentiment of having to rank up for 2 metas. Even the top players rarely did that, they would rank champs for just the second meta as that’s the one where placement will be decided. At least with 2 metas there’s some extra variety to keep things interesting.

Exactly this. One bad meta ruins the entire game mode for an insane amount of time. I highly doubt the community’s dislike of the crit meta we selected would be this high if it was only 2 weeks. And I doubt the general and public burnout discussion would have been as high as it was either.

(Also great point about rank ups)

I mean I can't even contribute to this chat because I only got to GC about 1 or 2 seasons ago, I think this season was my second time in GC, the tike before was the first, shameful for a valiant 💀 However, logically, 1 meta should be alright. I mean I'm sure you can bank in uru for one season without the world ending

Big yes for me too. BG needs anything that will create a sense of variety. This is an easy way to do it, and if someone chooses to skip the first meta, no harm done.
