Are there any plans for new back issues, or plans to update the current variant back issues rewards to make them more relevant?

Back issues are dead. They were no longer serving their original intended purpose, so Kabam shifted their focus in other directions.

What I would like to see though are saga-based variants with saga related rewards, bosses and nodes

In seriousness, back issues were originally intended to be endgame content with endgame rewards and then down the line became Cav content with Cav rewards. At that point it wasn't worth making them anymore. It was a great time to be a Cav in those days, and a pretty bad time being a TB with no content made for them

yeah I’d love to see more back issues sometime, it’s fun seeing the old story stuff, but the specific place Variants were at in progression is somewhere most players are blitzing through a lot faster now, so they’d need to be reworked for the current game state.

Stuff like Seasons of Suffering are probably currently filling the ‘end-game content with specific team comps’ design space.
