How do you guys rank champs?

This occurred to me during discussions in global about top champs and made me wonder, how do you guys rank champs? What makes them worthy of top 3/5? I personally include their effectiveness in taking down the opposing class in the class wheel and their effectiveness in general.For example, look at doom. Probably the best power control in the game, yet he isn’t in most people’s top 3 mystics( understandable though). In my opinion I’d say it goes Kushala Chavez and maybe juggs? At the same time though, abs debatably has the best utility game wise in my experience. So what do you guys take into account to make a champ one of the best in their respective class, whether it be effectiveness at huge dmage( skill) or punishing buffs( mystic) To be fair, I’m also curious in you guys’ opinions on top champs of a respective class, and why?

Versatility. Not just what they can do and how well they can do it, but against how many champs and in how many scenarios they can do it.

Damage. Good champs. You gain and understanding for your play style and how champs fit in. Then you began to rank up champs that fit YOU.

I view my roster like a toolbox. The champs are the tools. I prioritize champs that are the best at what they do and then where and how often I would use them. Tier lists are fine and all, but really depends on how deep your roster is. Depth can allow you to prioritize rank-ups so you have a balanced assortment of champs. Since 6/r6 champs are still relevant, it makes it a lot easier because their resource cost is much smaller than 7 stars, especially if a champ needs sigs.

Global gives good advice trust. Also, I have people, friends I have progressed alongside with or always asked for advice, who help me if I’m stuck between champs to rank up. I don’t always follow their advice but they are the reason I have an r2 Wong sitting in my roster now…😭😭

I just watch hours of YouTube videos of who are the "best" champs to ascend/take to R5/take to 200/7 star rank up, and think "yeah... I'll totally take Doom to R5 when I have the materials..."

And then half a year later, my Doom still sits there at R4, level 20, untouched.

2. Kings of Nuketown in BG.

3. Defenders who cause trouble almost no matter what bs meta they are running in BG.

The ones that fall into the "equilibrated" category. Champs with power and utility, also different playstyles and source of damage that can adapt to distinct nodes and champs. Also champs that you like, because then you'll end up ranking up "powerful ones" and let them collect dust in your roster.
If you don't like it and don't use it. No matter how good for the meta or for BG defense. If you will never enjoy it. Do not rank it

If a class is significantly weaker than another I’ll rank a champ in that class. Otherwise I just rank whoever I find interesting at the time (e.g Black Bolt)

Jk. Usually versatility and damage output. If I need someone for a specific piece of content that has good enough rewards I’ll rank them.

One more factor I’ll bring in sometimes is the “cool” factor. Champ design and how fun they are to play. Animations and stuff like that. Like me personally, aside from the name being Jack, jack-o’-lantern looks SO sick and would be like the mascot of my account like spunk is to lags spiker.

Now, I just rank champs who are fun and the odd nuclear bomb (usually the nuke is fun though). R2d 7 star sauron today (hits like a truck thrown by The Incredible Hulk), and r3d 6 star old man logan who hits good for a r3. Love both of em. I have doom, Kate, absorbing man, aegon etc all at r1, high sig. Just don't use em lol. Might do them at a later date if I feel like it

Comes down to need - what gap/role/utility is this rankup going to provide for you. What opponent in BGs or AW is this champion going to help you take down quicker, or is this champion going to improve your defensive lineup.

Sometimes it's a point in time rankup, like if the champion is an MVP for a Season of Despair fight or some everest content.

I have 2 7r3 and 9 ascended 6r5 which makes 11 total champions.

I ranked up 5 of those champions for AW Defense : 7* Mojo and 6* Jessica Jones, Absorbing Man, Man-Thing and Viv Vision.
I ranked up my 7* Chee'ilth for Raids and my 6* Terrax for AW on offense because he soloes path 3 90% of the time in Challenger tier.

I ranked up my 6* Hercules and Aegon for Incursions and because they can help clear some specific content.

I recently ranked up my 6* Quicksilver for the Destroyer fight in the current SOS quest, I had him at rank 4 but I decided to rank him so I would use less revives.

And I ranked up my 6 star Mantis because I love her.

Except for Aegon and Hercules, those are also champions I love to play even Man-Thing because I have MD as an active mastery and that helps him (and Mojo) a lot on attack.

I don't really care that much about utility or damage for my 7r3 or my ascended 6r5, it's more about helping me and my team in Alliance modes, especially since I'm an officer in my alliance.

For an attacker: Damage/Big Yellow Numbers (and sometimes they're big numbers, but are not yellow lol), utility, simple playstyle, and uniqueness.

My overall favorite champ is Captain Marvel, affectionately known as "CMM". 🙅🏼‍♀️🥳

Damage: Her Sp 2 and 3 can do some serious damage.

Utility: has an ability called Binary Ignition where she pretty much destroys almost anything, especially Tech class and Onslaught.

She's Poison immune, has an Indestructible buff when awakened, Unblockable specials, 5 Fury buffs, inflicts Armor breaks, inflicts stun debuff when punishing heavy, can purify debuffs, Sp. 1 deals True Damage so it powers through armor, etc.

Simple Playstyle: parry/block to build charges, attack to build power...wash, rinse, repeat. Drop Sp 2. Fight over.

Uniqueness: She's one of the very few champs who benefits from energy attacks/debuffs. She's sooooooo GOATED against Incinerates, Shocks, Coldsnap/Frostbite, Radiation, Electro's "science based" shocks, Terrax's rock field, and Onslaught's neuroshocks since they all accelerate her into binary ignition. The neuroshocks get her there the fastest, like in a few seconds. 😍

Not gonna lie, she's got me spoiled 😂

I have dozens of good champs still at R1 that may be on top too.

But Im focusing now to up Herc 6 stars to R5, only Cat 6 missing. Hope to get in December.
