This year is definitely better… how much better will depend on the drop rates on the crystals.

This year's banquet is definitely better than last years and better than the recent cyber week sale. This chart shows what you will guaranteed to get if you spend 15k units of your own. There going to be milestone rewards and RNG crystal luck as extra so this is definitely a great event. Thanks to @Double_Helix for the chart.

I like the rewards for this year are great and better than previous years but the fact that the points earned for purchasing and opening banquet crystals (GBC and SBC) are reduced and increased point to attain a milestone makes the event way worse for all players. One has to purchase almost 100 Superior Banquet crystals to achieve the milestone corresponding to about 30000 units spend that too considering SBC cost 300 units. Don't know what would happen if 1 SBC cost 600 units. I don't know anyone though who has 60000 units saved just for Banquet.

Except it takes about 62 and it takes about 16.5k considering the units you get back...

50 SBCs purchased and opened comes to 20,000 points, 88 shy of the max solo milestones. That's 15k units, if you start with absolutely nothing. If you've accessed everything that was free, and you account for what's in the milestones, it's 12.3k to finish the solo milestones and 16k-ish (about 4k more) to finish the realm milestones. So your 30k estimate is already fairly absurd, and I'm not sure why you're throwing a number of 60k anywhere near the conversation.

How do people think last year's was better, the crystals were so outdated. Valiants were getting 6 stars in the supposed high value crystal. This year the crystals are greatly upgraded
