After watching DLL discuss his abilities, be sounds like another toxic defender. Specials will do -90% damage. Armor shatter and armor break will be no good. Can't really think of a cosmic counter after listening to tbe breakdown. You need to land heavies on him which will be difficult according to DLL and his basic bits are non co tact so no parrying him fof the mkst part. He's gonna be hell to deal with. Kabam will be selling multiple counters off of him for sure.

If we’re looking for some solid counters, my first thoughts (of 7* champs) would be:

Adam Warlock, Angela, Gamora, Gladiator, Hyperion, Medusa, Nova, Serpent, maybe Sersi, maybe SIM, Aarkus, and maybe Vox.

Worth noting that his immunity to having his ability accuracy and combat power rate altered counters Aarkus and Medusa’s armor shatter effects. Which is rude, since I have both of them at r3

gorr should be great for him, doesn't care for the immunities and prefers to use sp3 for huge damage.

I'm not Dr Zola but I'm glad i didn't cave and open any of these for a chance at Arcade as Zola is looking to be a much better defender

I think Arnim Zola’s damage is a bit better than people are giving credit for. In the deep dive at about 2:15, we see a 6* Zola start chaining heavies against a full health ROL Wolverine and by the time he finishes sp2 Wolverine was nearly dead. That means maybe about 350k damage with class advantage, and that clip was an unduped Zola who doesn’t get the extra burst damage when the disintegrations expire (doesn’t seem like a very big burst but it’s still extra damage). I wouldn’t write off his damage potential just yet

but the problem is they last 0.5s, you can prolong them with heavy spamming and during the special but it still feels very short

in my opinion, the SP2 is useless. i feel that just keeping the 60-70 disintegrations will end up doing more damage.

The sp2 does inflict more potent disintegrations though

Exactly my thoughts as well. Just spam as many debuffs as possible and let it expire naturally.

The duration is very short 0.5s

The overall kit is good, but the burst damage on the disintegrate detonations feels a little low. It takes a lot of setup to get that payoff, it should really be a fight ender in most short to medium form content. Might just be the clips we saw though, I’ll withhold final judgment until we see some more hands-on stuff with him.

It honestly just seems like a nice bonus and not some huge damage burst. It's 388 damage per disintegration and all of those will expire pretty much immediately if you're not charging a heavy to begin with so I don't think it's supposed to be his main source of damage

Is there anything in his kit that says I can't magneto nuke him

Immunity to ability accuracy reduction, 90% special cowardice

I think unconventional cosmic like Gladiator, Vox would work great against Zola. He seems to me like a 5/5 defender.

He doesnt seem that hard at all as a defender only tough part id say is the cowardice being 90%
He gains ESP charges when struck and has a chance to inflict sleep if you hit him while above 20. You can heavy to remove charges, but that’s gonna be difficult when he has the same non-contact first medium and light attack that Onslaught does (which, I imagine, will also make attempts to use Magneto much worse since you can’t reliably parry him to charge heavy). I’m a little skeptical of the 5/5 defender rating he has on his champ spotlight, but he certainly doesn’t look like a pushover, especially with all his stall mechanics.
Angela chavez silk all have ways to take advantage of that
I don't see how either of those are going to do much against 90% cowardice and very little crit damage. You really need true damage

Medusa has advantage over #robot.. Scream with her armor break (more armor break if bleed immune) might be good too.

Medusas advantages against robots specifically are all removed by his abilities

I agree with @Wicket329 from what I’ve seen. He is very heavy on utility and I think a terror in most defense situations.

But the Sp2 bomb that *should* go off kind of fizzles. Perhaps that is dependent on his Sig? I don’t know but he looks solid at a minimum. Just have to see if he has juice on attack before he can be called a great champ.

Nevertheless, his profile is the first and last one I will purchase and I will definitely try to pick him up as 7*. Hoping for a special “Dr. Zola-Arnim Zola Pity Pull System”!

Special lock utility seems very nice but I imagine on most endgame content Kabam will just slap on a special lock immunity or just use Serpent defenders all over the place.

In terms of countering Zola, I’m hoping there’ll be a duck-aissance and Venom the Duck will flex his abilities here.

Does VtD have muscles to flex though? 😉

There’s no point in not using the sp2. The disintegrations last 0.5 seconds. Not using the sp2 doesn’t mean you get to leave the disintegrations there ticking on the opponent, they’ll expire almost immediately once you stop heavy chaining. The point of using sp2 is just that the disintegrations will stay paused for the duration of the attack so you can squeeze out some extra DOT damage.
