Gentile’s Built-In Recoil: 🤔

I pulled Gentile from a Titan crystal, so as usual, I read his kit and did some research on him. His inbuilt Recoil Mastery seems to have mixed reactions from players. Personally, I don't mind. I think it’s a good design choice since the attacker has full control over it, adding an extra layer of decision-making and excitement to his playstyle. Of course, that also comes with some frustration when poor choices are made mid-fight.
That said, many players, myself included, dislike this built-in recoil effect on defense because it makes Gentile unreliable. He seems to have decent defensive abilities, but losing 10% of his health when at max charges is a major downside.
I’m trying to understand the reasoning behind this. Why penalize him on defense? Is there something I’m missing that justifies it? Would love to hear other thoughts on this. Thanks!

I don't see why a defensive gentle would lose 10% max health when that isn't a part of his kit. In BGs that would only be 3% of his health if he is unduped.
Nobody use him in BG
