Are people firing Spiral's Dancing Blades as part of the combo chain?

I didn't like Spiral's built in mix-master node playstyle, but since the Titan crystal keeps blessing me with sigs on her, it looks like I am forced to learn her.

I've been watching some videos, and it seems like there is SP1-SP2 rotation or a SP1 spam rotation. But, generally it seems like people are just mainly using her dancing blade to dex specials (like against Bullseye) and not firing it.

Are people using her dancing blades as part of her combo? And if so, how (I can't get her to fire the blade upon completing a combo. Is there some specific timing to it)?

It's kinda wonky and from my experience only works if you swipe up mid-combo after a light attack. It also works after the first medium, so if you start the combo with a light, you could do a medium mid-combo then swipe up too. But I feel starting the combo with medium is much easier as her light intercept is actual garbage (imo the worst in the game, 0 reach on it), especially when you can't parry.

Sometimes I can't even get it to fire off, the swipe up on the left is just kinda odd to execute for me.

The awkward swipe is prob why a lot of players are just using it for dexing

The thing to remember about it is that you specifically have to swipe up from a block. I've found that just swiping up doesn't work very often so I tend to do my 3rd light attack, hold a if you're blocking for a tiny amount of time and then swiping up and I've never had a problem with it

It’s unreliable as get out. I don’t trust the mechanic out side of trying to intercept with it or using it to destroy a buff

I use it all the time. Just needs some practice.
But yeah only after a light attack. I normally do sp1, wait for the blade, MLLL^MMLLLMM by then I have sp2 or relic relic and sp2 and the opponent's dead.

Thanks everyone. I practiced and now feel better at launching the blades mid combo.

Right thumb does MLL then Left thumb taps Block and Right thumb swipes up to launch blades, then continue to combo on. Still doesn't feel natural, but it does feel more consistent.

I also tried one recommended strategy of doing LMLLM (I didn’t even know this was a combo before!). Compared to my prior strategy of LMLM, this feels less stressful to build up to 15 fervors while also benefiting from a 5 hit combo string.

I still don’t feel confident using her if I can’t parry or if I have worry to about node timers so time will tell whether I continue to use her or not.

I am starting to think this up and down swipe is targeted to the new PC crowd, swiping on a mobile device up and down after years of muscle memory kinda sucks for me.

I only swipe with the left hand, I can't imagine it would be more consistent with the right but if it works it works
