Arenas

Hi All
I enjoy doing arenas but over the last 3 new champs the match making gas been really bad.
Normally I could easily get to the 4 star champ with around 50 wins.
Now I can't even get to 10 before I get a death match.
Has anyone else had the same

Whenever a new rank starts to pick up steam the algorithm for matchmaking shifts to become a bit more difficult. You just have to adjust your method as the basement for how low a champ you can use moves up.

Been trying that but still get the death match .
    Do 1 -5 rank 3 five stars
6-10 if I get there rank 1 six stars
Then go to my high end ones.
Luckily if I get to 13 on my streak

Nope, infinite streak seems to be working fine.

Seems like the problem may be your roster. What do you have as far as 7* champs (any rank) and 6* at rank 3 and up?

Match 13 is getting close to the maximum difficulty multiplier (around 3.8ish). You're probably too low for the maximum teams the arena is finding for you.

Quick question: when you see that first deathmatch, what's the total PI of the team you're seeing, and what's the PI of the team you're using? Are you, say, seeing a team about 3.5x higher than you?

The death math are 7stars rank 3 and 4
Last one my team was around 46k theirs was 156k

Once you get into 11+ streak territory, use only 6r3 or higher (6r4 would be better). That should land you with Thanos/Kang teams for a few rounds, making life much easier for a bit.

    If it helps, I use 2x 6-Star R1 + 1x 4-Star R1 from Round 6 to R12.

Worked on the current Spider Woman arena.

Given your current opponent roster, that's too low.

The game picks our opponents by looking at what we ourselves bring into the arena. If a player uses that team, the arena can and will use that exact team against other players. But the arena, probably for efficiency reasons, doesn't match everyone against everyone else. It sort of picks a random subset of all arena players and looks at what they are using, and then picks an appropriate team to use against you. So different players might see different match ups. In this case, the subset of players the game randomly picked for you (which changes when arenas reset, but otherwise are basically constant throughout an arena run) contain players using teams of R3s and R4s. So that's the strongest team the arena is "aware of" - at least for you.

You have to stay above 1/3 that rating. So if it was 156k, you need to stay above 52k or so. This is an approximation. The real calculation is too complicated for most players to do, and it would change slightly from arena to arena, and it changes from arena round to arena round (until about round 19). But 46k sounds way too low.

The reason we need to use rules of thumb is because infinite streak is really a bug - probably the longest running bug currently still in the game. The arena wants to throw harder and harder teams at you, as your streak gets higher, to scale difficulty. It starts by looking for opponents that are 0.8x your team's rating - very easy. But that goes up as your streak counter goes up, so eventually it is looking for 1.0x, then 2.0x, then 3.0x, and it maxes out around 3.8x. This is *not* your points multiplier by the way, its something else.

But because the arena uses real players' teams, there is a "highest team" that exists. So what if the difficulty multiplier is currently 3.0x, and you use a team with 100k total rating? The arena wants to find a 300k opponent. But there is no such thing that exists. So the arena "breaks" and it defaults to throwing an easy team at you, hoping the problem will go away. But it never goes away, and players just get fed easy match after easy match forever.

UNTIL you use a very weak team. It can't find a match when you use a 100k team, or a 75k team, or a 50k team. But then at some critical threshold you use some 40k team or something, and suddenly boom the arena wakes up and says "hey, I can find something 3x higher than that" and throws it at you. That's a death match. So to avoid them, you have to keep your arena team high enough that the arena "stays broken" - it can't find proper matches.

Two things complicate this. First, because the multiplier keeps going up, it is actually harder to avoid a deathmatch at streak counter 12 than at streak counter 20. That's because the difficulty multiplier is still going up. The higher the multiplier, the higher the opponent the arena wants to find to throw at you, and the easier it is for the desired team to be so high it doesn't exist. And second, the arena doesn't use the visible PI of your team to find matches, it uses something called "naked PI" which is the PI of your champs without masteries or signature abilities. Basically, the PI of the champ when it is "naked" - without those extra things. Naked PI is not obvious from just looking, you have to look it up in tables.

So the infinite streak rules of thumb are: for every low streak counters it doesn't matter what you use, because the arena isn't looking for hard teams anyway - the difficulty multiplier is low. So use whatever. But once that multiplier gets high enough to be annoying - the arena would be hard if it actually found an opponent - you need to jump to high teams to "break" it, and force it to default to infinite streak, and then stay high enough to keep the arena stuck unable to find a match. The minimum necessary team actually gets *lower* as your streak goes up from about 10 to 20, so you can actually use lower teams at 20 than at 10. But precisely what you can get away with takes a lot of match to figure out, so most people just try to stay safe throughout.
